Studies and work

What have I learned today? That is the general question I ask myself every time I sit down with the blog. A couple of days have now passed since my last update, so certain things have come to pass. Today, I am off, and finally having some time to put down some thoughts. Still, as I have come to notice, there is really no such thing as "being off" with the new job. It's 24 hours on call. Wonder how long it will take until I grow tired of that, if ever. It is still the most interesting job I have ever heard of, and I am learning a great many things every day about it. Will be interesting to reach the level when I finally have some answers as well.

Just because it's a nice pattern, if nothing else. The steel-and-brick landscape of the city core of Norrköping has a magnificent allure!

First of all, work and such. Most of you have probably learned by now that I have recently “moved on” to a new position in my professional career. In reality, it’s not as much moving on as actually staying put, since I recently accepted and was accepted for the position of Chief of Operations at Skavsta tower. I will have the chance to work in the environment that I love, with the people that I... eh... normally work with :D Still, it will offer me the chance of learning a lot of what goes on behind the scenes, to gain a greater understanding of the business! Hopefully, I will be able to contribute to the other ATCOs some of my curiosity and passion for learning. Presently, I am in a bit of a stand-still, waiting for my office phone, waiting for my office computer and, most of all, waiting to have my status officially recognized by the Swedish Board of Transportation. Only then will I be Chief of Operations in reality, not just in name. Still, there are loads of small holes to plug to prevent leaks well before that.

More than that, my studies are taking an interesting turn. This coming semester I will be taking behavioral science, on the “B-level”, at the University of Umeå. Naturally, this will be through virtual communications, since I don’t really plan to drive up there anytime soon. I won’t really write that much about my work, for self-explanatory reasons, so I will instead focus more on my personal life, hobbies and primarily the studies. After all, with the topic being “What have I learned today”, it would be really odd if my studies didn’t pop up occasionally. So far, I have learned that the literature is not the easiest to come by, and sure as hell not the cheapest. Still, I have picked up SOME tricks over the years. I will, this time, look to second-hand stores to get some dogmarked copies, and if not, I will check the local library to see if I can't get myself some loaners. There are advantages of studying at a distance - the students don't batch up to clean out the libraries.

It feels wrong to take pictures from a graveyard, but it IS one of the nicer areas of Folkparken, and therefore, of the city.

Vendela has moved in with me, for all intents and purposes, and so have Mozart and Audi. For the uninitiated, they are two friendly little Whippets. Tiny little things covered in fur with great hearts and huge personalities. Lovely little buggers, if you ask me. Looks to be a great Christmas! Hoping as well to perhaps have a little photowalk with some dear friends, enjoying the home-made Christmas food, and otherwise just relaxing.... in the tower. Yeah, on call it is!
