RPG updates for autumn 23

 Update

So, everything turns to a standstill as I will remove myself from the world for a month of healing and leveling up. Since I do have lot of RPG-groups that are put to hold during my absence, I thought I would put in a massive post about the status of each, what's happening and what is planned in the future.

I will attempt to keep this page updated for all the groups I presently GM - not the ones I play in, however. If you have suggestions, comments or thoughts, feel free to drop a line! See out there!

For every group, I have also color-coded the status based on the current level of vested interest. Since many groups tend to "fall through" with lack of forward momentum, I color-code them as follows:

Green - Massive work is being done on planning and development, and meetings are set up in the future. Smooth runnings.

Yellow - Things are a little bit on hold, waiting for something.

Red -  Stand-by until further. Group is waiting for energy infusion until contact with group is reestablished. Possibly, with no input, the group will be dropped.

Call of Cthulhu - Doors to Darkness

Well, see here, here's a dire list of
players with questionable sanity..
There has been slow progress in this group, unfortunately. The first adventure of the Doors to Darkness has been concluded, with the investigation of the mysterious drug, the Black. Our intrepid investigators are now housed in Boston with varying amounts of success concerning logistics. Some have a sporadic source of income and some not, and the travellers from overseas do not even possess the means for a return trip. But, on the other hand, the east-coast of New England does appear to hold some alluring possibilities and perhaps that can be turned to a profit as we move into the Ties That Bind.

Delta Green - the Shotgun Solution

The agents have returned, barely, from investigating the Derelict ship outside of the Greenland coast and are now ready for a more official assignment from the mysterious agency leading them on. Next on the agenda is a Shotgun scenario with introduction of a new agent to the cell, and the formalisation of the investigative group.

It began in the ice...
Then comes The Mexico adventure, an adventure stolen from another RPG from the dawn of the nerds in Sweden. Ah, this takes me back to the 80s as our stalwart adventurers will proceed to the jungles and the final resting place of the dinosaurs in order to locate a lost archeological expedition.

And then, ooooh, then it takes another turn. But more on that later on with eSCPecially chosen news to come.

Drakar och Demoner - Valley of Mists

For the gang venturing forth into the Valley of Mists, well, the journey has just barely begun with more than a dozen adventures planned in a massive campaign, trying out the ropes of the new Dragonbane system. Five hardy old men with four hardy characters exploring their lost youths in a nostalgic trip through the mists of antiquity.

Presently, the adventures have entered the Valley through a deadly incident with a vile welcomeparty, but have not finally reached their base of operations in a cozy, warm inn in a homely village. Now, the time comes to look outward, to take inventory of all the mighty adventures to come.

Drakar och Demoner - Sons of the Dice

This here is intended to be a physical group, bringing the old boys back together for a rowdy bunch of misfits having some social nights together. Interest has been sporadic in the group thus far, and it hasn't really kicked off with session 0 yet, so I guess we'll see where we wind up.

Mothership

Gathering a new bunch of players for the first time to kick off some ventures into space in this elegant sci-fi horror system, a low budget competitor to Alien. It's still in yellow as it is picking up interest and players and setting up for a session 0 further down the line. We will start off with some official scenarios, such as Another Bug Hunt, Dead Planet and so on, to investigate the potential for further. Presently, it looks mostly adapted to one-shots with no real possibility of campaign play.

Mothership has great potential and no bounds - there's not really an established world or mythos, so there are no preconceptions and it allows for great player contributions to the formation of the epos. Remember, the shadow is the greatest teacher for how to find the light.

Kult - I have Such Sights to Show You

Just west of Nantucket, there's a small island called Tuckernuck. It's here that an unlikely duo have found themselves investigating a strange signal or radio interference. What is the significance of the odd tunes coming from the radio, mixed with voices of the past? And, at the same time, they are looking further within themselves for the truth and strength to carry on. A hacker roaming the deep web and a biker with a sordid past as a circus roadie - what can they possibly have in common? Only time will tell...

The USS Thresher, SSN 593, sank on April 9, 1963. It was the first nuclear-powered submarine to be lost at sea, and still today, theories battle to explain the mystery. It was lost with a full complement of 129 souls onboard. News of this, as well as other strange tidbits from the past, crackled on the handheld radio the duo carries with them on the island, but why?

Kult - Velarium - the Atrocity Exhibition

Presently, this group has dropped into dead waters. Life takes it's turns and the frequency of answers from players has dropped to a standstill, so it's placed on hold until changes are forthcoming.

Planning stages

Here are some of the ideas in the pipe for the future, to see if there's interest. Presently, there are no concrete plans or dates or groups for them, but if there's vested interest later on, things might change.

The Triskellion

What do Alien, Blade Runner and Coriolis have in common? Well, they're all Free League games, and they all share the same engine for playing. That there is a natural temptation to bunch them all together, and why not? Why shouldn't we?

Imagine walking the smog-infested streets in the glittering neon lights of a megacity, investigating a strange murder in the neo-noir visual style of Blade Runner.

Next, you're exploring among the stars in the hard sci-fi mood of the Ridley Scott universe. Forget the xenomorphs - the universe is so much larger! From colonial marines to space trucking with your own ship to xeno-archeologists investigating strange ruins to manning the luxuary liners with affluent passengers, well, the sky is no longer the limit.

And finally, tying it all together, the mysteries and exotism of the Third Horizon with it's worlds, unlike anything else.

For the first time, they are all bunched together, to be explored as one in a massive storyline that carries from one to the next to the next.

The Stars, Like Dust

The premise is simple. You awake. What do you do? You have no character sheet, you have no rules system, you have no knowledge of the world. And from there, it expands. Massively. It's a sci-fi world where you explore a seemingly abandoned ship floating in the stars, then explore a massive universe and then stake out your claim, making your path. And yes, to make it further unique, there are plenty of opportunities for strategic gameplay between the rpg sessions, as you control everything from a single starship to a flotilla!

Western

There's is always a timeless classic that comes back to haunt you, and well, this here system is probably it. Best suited for one to two players, it's complex, sure, but it's damn realistic! And the wild west was harsh country, where you were likely to die early, if not from pneumonia then lead poisoning from a bullet or five. But the take, yeah, that made it all worth it. Step into the boots and trod the dust of ages as you do what you want - are you gonna stake a claim as a gold-digger, or are you putting on the hat of a bounty hunter? Do you cover your face with a bandana to hold-up the caravan over the mountains, or will you smoke the peace-pipe with Dew Mountain as you negotiate the terms of a lasting trading treaty?

Fantasy

After the Valley of Mists, things might take a turn. There is a possibility that we will turn away from the Free League's somewhat limited Dragonbane-system and delve into a deeper realm. Perhaps it will be the old DoD-91 that comes knocking, or perhaps it will be a turn to the old Eon III-system. There have been rumors of tackling the Svavelvinter-campaign, and there have been thoughts of the Enemy Within or The Crown of Thorns, but adapted to other systems… We will have to see what happens…
