Berit the ostrich

When is the moving really, really over? It is starting to feel as if it should be, yet now all that remains is to retain a measure of control. The crates have been unpacked, all the furniture is in place. Some new flowers have been added to the house, and the grill is mounted and tested. The money has gone through, and boy did it ever go through. The amount of loans and money transfers when selling one apartment and moving into a house is nothing short of staggering! Fortunately, I got around most of them and now, the economy has been cleaned up and in fact, looks to be cheaper living in the house than in the apartment. Will remain to be proven, though...
One of the more interesting thoughts that struck me today, on the topic of the picture above, was that I have never really added anything to a place where I lived. Sure, that is not entirely true, especially not since we built the house in Skåne, but that wasn't really ME. I, personally, don't do anything like build or modify structures. Well, this time around, that changes. There's a fence to be built and there's a door that needs doing. There is the matter of my little spice garden and the small garden shed. Will be very interesting to see how far I get in these matters. Otherwise, the house is almost complete. Still lacking the daughter and the dogs until the habitat is quite finished. Not that long before we can bring them down with another set of furniture and moving boxes. That allergic reaction is not far off now! I can hardly think of a better autumn than sitting on the porch with wife and daughter, sipping some chilled white wine, enjoying food off the grill, the goggies happily clattering about, sniffing everything with a cool autumn breeze slipping by. On the horizon, the telltale embers of a dying sun with some clouds pregnant with rain, ensuring I won't have to take the hose to those pesky little flowers and plants. Not so bad, eh?
Food, food, glorious food. Yesterday, as most noted on Facebook, we tried the grill out. Just some charred animal flesh to go with a rugged potato salad. Secondary grilling, or whatever one would call it, to a perfect 300 degrees Centigrade and the lid of the grill closed - the meat was more tender than ever, but still with a crispy edge. It was perfect and among the best things I have ever had! Today, for your inspiration, I have marinated fillet of ostrich in Jack Daniel's and will toss it on the grill with some potato squares and a fresh summer salad. Not too shabby, either!

Great goals accomplished, and now setting new ones to look forward to. Getting some structure at work will be nice with some major changes in the making. That fruit will grow during the late summer and sprout sometime during autumn, I expect. Photography will take up a large place still, sprouting new wings with added energy, expectations and challenges from my dear fiancée. And of course, there will be some studies. I will take some psychology, a subject of great interest, added to my work at the Institution for Applied Physics and Electronics in Umeå, faaaaar to the north.
