I knew it!

When moving, you come across the weirdest possessions...
There is always the question nagging, and once again it has popped up: Why do you write in English? This is actually for the benefit of any who happen to stumble across the blog on Google, by the random function. Of course, odds are that YOU are reading and writing English, so why shouldn't I? In other words, ask not why, ask why not?

Our "main paper" in Sweden, the Daily News or Dagens Nyheter, today carried a very interesting notice. It is actually something that has been concerning me for sometime, but whenever I bring it up people seem to coincide it with a sober drunken rant, as it were. For the Swedilinguent, you can check it out in it's full riches here:
DN debatt om bristande social kompetens hos ungdomar
It is about our dear young, the workforce of tomorrow and the carriers of our legacy and how they are mysteriously not getting jobs. Seems like, according to the article and the ravings of a moving lunatic whose been at it for like SIX YEARS (but who cares) that our young shitlings (that's right, I said shitlings... ref anyone?) are not getting jobs due to a lack of social competence. About 15% of the young available workforce are unemployed and not studying. What the number comes to when adding the political measures of workschooling to get them a place, or academic studies, it will really be staggering.

Is it all bad? Of course it is not - nothing ever is. The main reason why it's a problem is of course that old farts like me tend to hog the positions where we act as gatekeepers to the workforce. And we tend to value the characteristics that made us great, right? Like discipline, openness, self-confidence, witticism and so on. Those lacking, they better pick up the slack or else face the consequences, right? Then, our way of raising those children, was it really adapted to those demands? Were children taught consequences? Discipline? Or were they just given everything they pointed to and protected from any and all possible harm? Gee, I wonder why they now are cry-babies just out of diapers... Well, AHM just sayin'...

So who is to blame? And why blame anyone, why not just fix the problem?

And as to us, we are still piling up the stacks in the moving process. Tomorrow, we take possession of the new house! Tomorrow!!! Moving is Tuesday, and then I get back with more info...
