It's all about perspective

And so I am finally back in town... for just one night. Yep, came home just after seven in the evening and sat myself down by the computer, promptly, for just over three hours. Unfortunately, it was the working computer. The mountain of paperwork tends to ... well, not decrease whenever I am away. So I shuffled away the bare essentials and then went to sleep. This morning, up with the sun to pack the backs and prepare for another trip. And this time, I find myself scratching my head and wondering, should I pack my computer (perhaps to edit some pictures and update the blog), the working computer (to have a little check on the much needed paperwork and experience the thrill of 12-hour working days) or gym clothes (since the hotel does have a gym and I am, quite frankly, badly in need). At the time of writing, I still haven't decided, but I will call you back on that.

This picture serves me as a reminder of the strange actions of people. Here was a roundabout in the middle of Paris, not far from the Arc of Triumph. There were really no lanes planned in the turn itself, but they way the cars moved, I should say they had impromptu created about four lanes. Let's just say that it was traffic chaos, cars moving like a fleeting river of metal. And into this mess comes the dude on the bike, riding like he hadn't a thought in the world. His hands were in his pockets, relaxed and leaned back, with headphones in his ears blasting music. And thus he rode into the shitstorm. The cop, or whatever title comes with that manly uniform, stopped him and let him have it. Really, I should say, it is out of concern, since the dude clearly deserves to be a hood ornament, but "concern" is not really the word I would use to describe the look on his face. People never cease to amaze me. Just yesterday morning, when I was dragging my bags out of the hotel, there was a guy walking the stairs in front of me. Naturally, he stopped in the middle of the stairs, at the most narrow part (I have come to understand that this is mandatory) in order to pick up his phone and send a text. Unsure whether he intended for me to wait behind him until he was ready, but I squeezed by like an icebreaker. And for once in my life, I didn't intentionally squash him! Improvements!

Here is a good thought - it all depends on your perspective. I will have you notice that the ribbed wood (no jokes here, please!) to the sides are actually window shutters. So the picture was shot almost straight up - the guy was sitting on a wall next to the street. But the odd thing is... how can you have a beggar who has no bowl for money?

And here is a little reminder for myself - tolerance and patience. This here's a monument in Paris, dedicated to world peace. The glass frames bring greetings in all the languages of the Earth. A modern day Rosetta stone, one could call it. Except it's built in glass, an element we all know for it's durability and resistance to the ravages of time.

Well, time to go again. And it looks like my private computer and the gym clothes are coming along for the ride. Serves as a reminder to myself that there is a limit and it's really up to me to enforce it. Sometimes. Possibly.
